January Robin

09 Jan 2014 3 1 299
This poor little fellow must have been blown off course by that Polar Vortex we had. Actually, there was a a group of 5 or 6 of them. Robins in January are truly unheard-of here. The very earliest I have ever seen them was mid-March. The bone-chilling cold was followed by a mild spell, so I hope they had a chance to find their way back to where they belong this time of year.

My sweet Tante Eva has been on my mind. We lost her quite suddenly and my deepest sympathies go out to all her family. While thinking about her I retouched this old photo from a precious moment in our family's history, my sister's baptism. Tante Eva is my sister's Godmother. She was always so happy when we were all together. I want to always remember her like that.

Bright begonias

After early summer torrential rains which did their best to drown them, followed by a hellish heat wave which sought to bake them to a crisp, these lovelies finally enjoyed a revival in the cooler days of September and some very summer-like daytime temps in October. these colours are SOOC, they really looked like they were shining out of the relative darkness of the coleus.

the best thing about Autumn has to be the colours. so beautiful, but sadly, so short-lived.

this is another "rescue plant", i gave it a new pot and a new home at my mom's. it has continued to bloom throughout the process and will be overwintered indoors so it can be enjoyed again next summer.
