Ha, my hometown station - great! And the Kölner Dom, even greater :-) Have you had the opportunity to see the new glass window they released recently? I only know it from pictures so far but from what I've seen it looks phantastic! The same here with the "modern" addition of the roof above the tracks that had been added some years ago replacing old, dirty and rusty ones. I really like them, the design is ingenious in my eyes and perfectly blends with the "old" original big hall.

I am happy you like it :-) In fact all these pictures of stations have been made as promised to you. Hadn't I seen your stations I probably would not have done mine, not on a business trip at least ;-)
Indeed I like much the fashion how they built these roofs.

The one in Cologne was a special design for this station as the problem was the curvature of the tracks leading to the Rhine and to design a fitting roof for these platforms. The second problem from which the old platform roofs suffered was the dirt. They designed a special self cleaning glass (by Bayer) so they would not have to clean the roofs so often anymore making maintenance much cheaper and creating an overall much cleaner, nicer look. Over the years however I think the "self cleaning" effect is not what I would expect from something called "self cleaning"... ;-)
Thanks for the honour of having you inspired to make photos during a business trip ;-) Maybe in a not too distant future we can make a common compilation of station photos once the group feature is up and running... hey, it's getting flickr'ier here by the day... :-)
Thanks for your (station) photos, I really enjoy them!

Thanks for the explanation :-)) As I have been living here only since 3 years I do not know such details. In fact the city still doesn't feel like "home", I do not why.
As for the new window of the cathedral I can tell you that I personally did not like it. It is too modern and simplistic for its aim, at least contrasting much with all other windows. I'll make a (more detailed) picture of that for you next time I am there ;-)

About the window: I am looking forward to your shot then. Unfortunately, I haven't seen it personally but from what I saw in pictures I really liked it. But maybe the reality is less attractive than it's virtual counterpart. ;-)
