Escalier

Escalier
The stairs of the dungeon, last thing from the Philippe Auguste's fortress; Joan of Arc was questionned here but not jailed here; her prison was another tower at a hundred meters, but destroyed by the construction of joan of arc avenue. It's possible to see a part of the foundament of this tower but it's necessary to have a tooth ache to... ;-)

Joan of Arc - Leonard Cohen - extr.

Leonora, IanAbroad, thekatsous, Birkin and 3 other people have particularly liked this photo

Nice photo! I like spiral staircases very much.
So bad King Philippe Auguste build this fortress, probably to annoy good King Richard! ;-D

Oh, no! this fortress was built in 1204! five years after good King Richard's death. He dies 6 april 1199 during the campaign against bad King Philippe Auguste.
Good King Philippe Auguste built it to celebrate (?) his victory, in Rouen, in june 1204, against bad King Jean sans terre (John Lackland).

Yes, I knew that the old Lionheart died at Châlus . 1204 was a good year for Philippe Auguste; he conquered Château Gaillard and soon had all of Normandy. All the Camembert and all the Calva!!

Don´t be too hard on Johny boy, he had a difficult childhood!!;-D

I agree for John, his poor reputation seems to come from friars he did not like, but they had the papers.... ;-)

great conversation above ! :-))

such wry humour in "Joan of Arc" ..!!)

L' humour empreint d'ironie désabusée me semble plutôt idoine pour Cohen..:-)
Quelque peu tordu et grinçant oui ..!! ..:))
