Great Spotted Woodpecker

Great Spotted Woodpecker
Taken in my garden through double glazing and at high iso, so these are not the best quality. I'm happy with them as record shots though. They've been visiting my garden for about a week now. The one in the right hand shot hiding behind the feeder is a juvenile and we were able to watch the adult stuffing huge amounts of food into it :-)

Agree with you Keith, The best opportunities seem to be when you are not present in the garden, I've tried a wireless remote but never got the shot I wanted. You done well here, I would have been pleased with it, certainly one for the bird album.

They look very good pictures to me Keith. I would be chuffed with these shots. I love watching woodpeckers and the way they climb trees! What a noise they make when they start pecking as well.

Oh isn't this just a grand pair of pictures! Heh, I know all about the pictures through the window! They look great to me though and what a fun visit to watch! I would have loved to see the parents stuffing food into their fledgling's ravenous beakie! :D

Thanks for the note the other day with the link to the squirrel video...I snickered as I've seen that one several times in the past and it never does get old. In fact, I read a book once "Outwitting Squirrels," about a fellow's hopeless challenge to keep his birdseed safe from, they just don't give up and it can be infuriatingly hilarious! :D

Or in my case...I had to just plain give up on having a garden because the ground squirrels will never ever, EVER stop digging and trying to get to your lovely flowers and such. Sheesh!

Anyway, hope you are well and happy! We are FINALLY about to go on a camping trip in a couple of weeks...what an idea!!

Take care! :)

Is this an unusual visitor to your garden, Keith? We've also had a woodpecker visiting the bird feeders mainly to get peanuts. We've never seen this before, but he/she come twice a day at the moment.

Jean Paul

Charming photo! Is that suet stuffed with seeds? On second thought, maybe it's too warm for suet.

Glad you like the shot Diane. You're right, it's a high protein suet block with added seed and bits of insects. Shop bought. The Woodpeckers have been coming down twice a day to feed on it.
