I hope it is left alone to provide a natural habitat for all species of life that rely on decaying wood. As I have mentioned before, I don't recall seeing a stag beetle since I was knee-high to a grasshopper!

I think it will be left Andy..........there are signs of similarly fallen trees being left to decay on the spot and several log piles left around too.

I built a log pile in my garden a couple of years ago in the hope of attracting Stag beetles. I've only seen one (last year), but based on this I'm hopeful for more. See: www.ipernity.com/doc/keithburton/46760078/in/album/402979

Eine sehr schöne Aufnahme, Keith, die den Kreislauf in der Natur aufzeigt. Der tote Baum schenkt nun Käfern, Pilzen und anderen Tieren und Pflanzen einen Lebensraum.
In Deutschland wird den Wäldern zuviel Holz entnommen. Wegen der Energiewende wird viel Holz verbrannt, um weniger fossile Brennstoffe zu verbrauchen. Aber man darf nicht nur eine Priorität setzen, sondern man muss die Natur in ihrer Gesamtheit respektieren.
