Probably around 3 feet in length with a "head" the size of a dinner plate............but the stinging tentacles probably extend much further.

An incredibly beautiful! image. I don't know enough superlatives. This would make a magnificent larg print on a wall. Superb photography. It looks like you and your camera were under water?

Many thanks Micritter...............much appreciated. I might just get this one printed up as you suggest.

I wasn't underwater, but I was able to get close on some rocks so I was six feet or so directly above it.

Three feet?!!!! Agh! I'd suddenly discover I possessed Olympic swimming speeds if I ever met that in the water!

Where were you when you took it - surely not swimming alongside in your speedos?

Keith Burton club has replied to Rabbitroundtheworld
Yep! Quite an impressive beast.

Unfortunately I left my speedos at home :-)) I took this from rocks and was able to look almost directly down on it from about 6ft or so away.

Keith, this picture is just a WONDER!! I cannot believe you captured it from THE SHORE! Not an aquarium!! Mind-boggling. How incredible that this jelly was swimming so close to shore that you a) spotted it and b) could get close enough for this INSANE picture!! I'm totally blown away here. WOW. :) I adore these creatures, so I am mightily impressed and envious that you could capture such a fine image without being underwater with it or behind glass at an exhibit. Your luck truly is through the roof here. *shakes head in amazement* Thank you for sharing and linking to this from the one you posted today!

I was really lucky Janet..........it's that simple! Right place, right time :-)

Several of them came into the little harbour on Skokholm Island where it was high tide and the water was very calm. It came so close to shore I was able to get some photo's from almost directly above them.
