Knit 1, Purl 1, Indulge
TSC and Sight and Sound

(Try to not get any food on my knitting, please. ;)

Indulgence: "Something that is done or enjoyed as a special pleasure."

When I was in my 20s and 30s I used to knit all the time. People would ask me "What will you do when you're an old lady if you're doing all this knitting now?" I would say, "I will just knit some more!"

Well, time and life has taken its toll on my shoulder and wrists so now when I knit it is pure indulgence and I cherish every minute of it. This is a sweater that I started some time ago. I am hoping that I can finish it in the, not too distant, future.

I'd like to dedicate this photo to our fearless Witch who, I know, also has to cut back on her knitting. Hang in there "oh wicked one!" :)

That looks like a nice warm sweater for the winter.
Do you knit woollen socks too? (re your comment on my recent 'socks' upload).

Thanks, Robert. I have never tried knitting socks yet, but hope to one day.

Lovely! I too am a knitter, and have been all my life. In fact at the moment I have something on the go which has cables and moss stitch like yours. It's a gorgeous indulgence

Thank you, Judith. There's nothing like it is there? Something almost meditative about it.

I'd love to see some of your knitting sometime. :)

For me knitting would be torture! =D But I can definitely understand knitting can be even relaxing and meditative for someone who can =)

But Sami....you didn't critique the photo. You know I live for this moment each week. :)

Hmm... Okay, here it comes... (drum roll...)

I like the composition, and there are leading lines used in the image. Good depth of field. Light works for the subject. Although, I have added some vignetting. But that is a bad habit of mine =D

k.e.s_kloset has replied to Sami Serola
Hey, thanks for coming back and giving me your thoughts, Sami. See, I don't often think of adding some vignetting so I appreciate that very much. :)

I like to knit although I only really took it up again in the last few years after learning when I was a girl. I like that it grows fast. People are fed up with scarfs. I like the textures here and the colour. My favourite wool is alpaca.

Thanks so much. That's what got me knitting sweaters, Jan. I was "fed up" with scarves lol. They can go on forever!

Lovely colour and knitting. I love knitting too, but don't do that much and I've never seen the penguin yarn here, but used it often when I lived in England.

I used to knit a long time ago, but it's been so long that I forgot how to. My mother took it up late in life, and I have a couple of precious sweaters she knitted for my bears, which mean a lot to me. I hope you can finish your beautiful sweater soon, Karen. You are a wonderful knitter, and I like how you composed your shot! :-)

Yes, I hope you finish it real soon, Karen. When I click on the link I get a very polite message saying "This video is not available...sorry about that" :-) When I put "Pleasure and Pain" into the YouTube search box I got one or two unexpected results :-) But, I may be too young to view them :-))) However, when I put in exactly "Al Jarreau (1988) Pleasure Over Pain" I got the correct result :-))) Not heard this before. A good one! Thank you for posting to 'Sight and Sound', Karen.

Yes, it's very important to use the title "Pleasure Over Pain" lol So glad you were finally directed to the correct destination. You are much too young for some of those places. ;)

Much like have a delicious pint of dark beer eh, Charlie? Sounds like you understand knitting real well. Thanks for venturing out in the snow and stopping by. ;)

Yes Mam. My 3rd grade teacher taught all the students how to knit to improve fine motor skills. Although I haven't knitted in a number of years, I still recall the calming influence it has

What a cool teacher! I'm so glad my mom taught me around that same age too. I think all kids could benefit from learning to knit.
