Firth Viaduct In The Snow

Firth Viaduct In The Snow
The Firth Viaduct crosses the shallow valley of the River North Esk about 1/2 mile to the east of Auchendinny. When it comes to the River North Esk, I almost always think of the better known River North Esk which flows through Glen Esk and down to Montrose.

This viaduct now hosts a footpath which runs all the way to Penicuik and between here and Auchendinny station, you pass through two short tunnels, proving that this short section of the line provided a number of engineering challenges with this viaduct perhaps being the stand-out - although I do like the tunnels.
