No Access To Guardbridge
These stumps once carried the former St. Andrews Branch Railway over the Eden at Guardbridge. At this point, the Eden hosts two and a half bridges with this bridge being the half. I believe it once had a wooden deck which shouldn't come as a surprise if I mention that it's designer was the infamous Thomas Bouch. This branch line was one of the first to be done on the cheap and as such, the running speeds on the line were pretty low and it's structures, where possible, were built on the cheap.

There's a petition going to try and reinstate this railway but I can't see it ever happening or any need for it happen. St. Andrews relies on it's tourism and most of those tourists arrive by car. Those who do arrive by train are treated to a bus link from Leuchars station to the middle of St. Andrews every fifteen minutes, a single track branch line could never compete with that. I honestly think the money would be better spent upgrading the A91.
