Minnesota State Fair

Minnesota State Fair
With the Minnesota State Fair wrapping up, I thought I'd share a photo from Google Earth of a pole on the Fairgrounds. It seems the State Fair has it's own 2400V distribution system on grounds.

I recall when I was younger and visited the fair, I remember seeing a number of transformer poles fed via weatherhead riser on the same pole. I also remember a metal framed substation, fed in and out underground, located near the center of the grounds. When I was there more recently, I saw way fewer of the transformer poles and padmounted transformers everywhere.

I was scoping the grounds out on Google Earth recently and was thrilled to find a shard of overhead still remaining as seen above. I asked my sister to scope out the area when she was there and she informed me that this is gone. Dang it!

That's too bad. I bet there was some interesting stuff in that sub.

I wonder if the new underground system still runs at 2.4kV delta?

I believe it does. There is a large padmount transformer and metal clad switchgear where the old substation was located.

I've been to the MN state fair once and I do remember seeing that sub you speak of - it did look old.
