Secluded Entry

Secluded Entry
Almost entirely concealed in the landscape, the sheer size of this 1860 hexagonal 'Palmerston' fortification of Fort Scoveston is awe inspiring. The main entrance shown here is accessed by a completely hidden bridge that spans a 36 ft wide escarpment. It's only when walking around the outside edge does nature offer up an occasional glimpse of the ramparts and stone wall of the escarpment (some 22 ft deep).
