Stodmarsh, Kent HFF!!

19 May 2019 8 9 115
Stodmarsh has been occupied since at least Saxon times, and Saxon burial tumuli have been found near Stodmarsh Court, the 17th century former manor house. In 686 King Eadric of Kent gave the manor, consisting of three plough lands in the marsh called "Stodmersh", to the monastery of St Augustine in Canterbury. In 1270 Henry III extended this by granting free-warren in all their demesne lands of "Stodmarsch" to the abbot. When the monastery was dissolved in 1537 by Henry VIII the manor fell into the hands of the king, before being granted to John Master of East Langdon six years later who moved to Stodmarsh Court. Stodmarsh was originally a separate civil parish but was added to Wickhambreaux parish in 1934. It falls into the deanery of Bridge within the diocese of Canterbury. HFF Everyone!! Fields at Stodmarsh

15 Sep 2019 19 26 201
Stodmarsh in Kent is divided by the river Stour and a tiny tributary called the Lampen stream, many cenuries ago the land was used as a stud for wild horses and earned the name Studmarsh. English Nature are planning to re-introduce the wild horses so the land will be grazed. The horses will come from Holland as they are genetically closest to our original wild horses. I can only conclude this land is awaiting horses! A lot of this area is a National Nature Reserve. HFF!! Everyone MY THANKS TO ALL WHO VISIT AND COMMENT I DO APPRECIATE IT.

Part of Chilham Square Kent

07 Apr 2019 32 40 340
Chilham village square is a treasure, bounded by beautiful medieval and Jacobean half-timbered buildings, many dating from the late 15th century. Much of the village is designated a heritage conservation area, in recognition of the historic value of the many of the buildings. Because of the beautiful old buildings, Chilham is often used as a setting for film and television productions. Among the finest of the buildings are the half-timbered Tudor Lodge (1370-1410), Tudor Cottage, and the White Horse Inn - all in the village square. Tudor Lodge is the building with the “A” board outside, Tudor cottage is nearest to the camera, and the White Horse is behind me! This picture was taken on a very dull and wet afternoon in April. HFF!! Everybody. MY THANKS TO ALL WHO VISIT AND COMMENT IT IS APPRECIATED
