Spitfire R6915

Spitfire R6915
This aeroplane was built by Supermarine Aviation at the Wooston works, Southampton, 1940. Delivered to 6 Maintenance Unit at RAF Brize Norton in preparation for service, July 11, 1940. Between 20 July and 7 Oct 1940 it made 57 operational sorties, at heights varying from 4000 to 25000 ft. The aircraft was flown during this period by 13 different pilots, and was damaged a few times.
Having served in various Squadrons this aeroplane is one of the few in existence still with its original WW2 paintwork, and that is why it looks well worn.
Seen hanging from the ceiling in the atrium at the Imperial War Museum London.

Thanks to various research sites.

MY THANKS TO ALL WHO VISIT AND COMMENT IT IS APPRECIATED

Superb shot John. A great place to put the aircraft so it can be viewed from all angles.

My daughter loves the Spitfire. If this plane is nearing from anywhere, she knows it by the sound. We saw several flying at the south coast.
