Caspersen Beach Sunset 2

Caspersen Beach Sunset 2
This was my first trip to this location and I have no good reason why I have never made it up here in the past. This is really a great location. This is one of about 6 location where the rocks are aligned perpendicular to the shoreline, which are the ones out in the water nearly covered up. This stretch of beach also has rocks along the shoreline itself creating a multitude of compositions using wide angle and telephoto lenses.

Yesterday's approaching storm front was not exactly what I had in mind by the time I got up there but I made do with what was given. The difficulty here when using 30 second exposures is when to trip the shutter?? Best Guess as to when one or more waves will make it up onto the beach.

I used two 3 stop ND filters and a 2 stop graduated filters with a circular polarizing filter for most of the shooting, getting down to around 20-25 second exposures. This image, as it was getting dark,I had removed the polarizer, yet still getting down to 30 sec. exposure.

Astonishing light and colour. Very good reproduction of the rock textures in the foreground.

Beautiful colors and texture. I wonder how this image would look if you had moved the camera closer to those rocks and at a lower angle. Just a thought.

A beautiful dramatic shot with lovely rich colour. I enjoyed reading about how you took it. Brought back memories of photographing on local beaches.

John, I do have multiple compositions made that afternoon, but after getting pounded by a huge wave the week before I didn't want to chance getting too close. I did have a couple on shore waves come over my feet.

I love images like this. There's a kind of dreamy quality to them. The intense sky colours and cloud patterns kind of jolt you out the dream, and compliment the scene so well at the same time.
