This was a whirlwind day in the Green Swamp and surrounding area of Brunswick County, North Carolina (including Boiling Spring Lakes) with three good friends: Kelvin Taylor, Melissa McCormick, and Hope Brooks. We were able to see many examples of Native Orchids, Pitcher Plants, Sundews, and Venus' Fly-traps as well as several other rare and unusual wildflower species in their native setting. Day trip to look for Yellow Lady's-slipper orchids in nearby, DuPont State Forest near Cedar Mountain, North Carolina. Although we were just a bit late for the best of the Large Yellow Lady's-slipper orchids, we did find a few that were still holding on. We had much better luck with the Small Yellow Lady's-slipper orchids. We also made a side trip for Aplectrum hyemale or Puttyroot orchid, and we found a few pretty good ones.
