Alphabetical Photochallenge 2014 V for Vital. Our commoner bumblebee species contribute significantly to our economy through the ecosystem service that their pollination of crops provides. Pollination is vital for many of the nation’s wild plants and it helps to maintain affordable five-a-day fruit and vegetables. Bees provide a free service and unless their decline is halted it could result in food shortages and more expensive food.

A beautiful bee catch, Jean. Interesting that you used to grow the perennial honesty.

Love the pollen sacks. I'm still transforming my garden from garden centre to wild meadow. So glad I did it. The grass needs cutting but when it's full of buttercups and clover and the bees are whizzing about it doesn't seem right to cut it. So I tidy it up a bit with hand shears.

Good for you ! It sounds lovely. Mine's a mix. I have a sort of wild border. It used to be all wild but the bees etc. ignored it in favour of the rest of the garden. Now, I'm keeping what I see them visiting and trying out other things till I get the best mix.

Wonderful shot, Jean. They move around so much it's hard to get a good picture, but you've certainly gotten this one.

I am lucky - a QueenTree bee decided to make her nest in a bird box and now we have loads of workers buzzing in and out. They are common in Europe but have populated the south of UK since 2007. I have been trying to get a good image of them, but they wont sit still! Your imge if beautifully focussed.

Beautiful image. A great close-up with lovely detail. Very impressive - I don't know how you managed to get such a pin sharp image. I have only ever managed a blur or an empty space!! Lol!!
