Nobody out on an evening like this, except us and a lone kite surfer

Balnakeil Church

A dramatic place. This has been a religious site for about 1200 years and in Gaelic Balnakeil means “bay of the church”. There is a tomb within the walls of the church which has the inscription ""Donald Makmurchou here lies low Was ill to his friend, and worse to to his foe True to his master in prosperity and woe. DMMC 1623".

Sandstorm On Farraid Head

04 Aug 2013 250
After the rain, the wind kept rising to gail force and beyond but the sun was out which created a sand storm to rival the best of deserts. When we set out in the morning this was a tarmac road, by the time we return in late afternoon the tarmac was under two feet+ of sand. The disorientation was amazing. Tibby had to hold our hands and walk backwards. Being that much shorter, she and Monty bore the full brunt of the sand blasting. Cold teabags at the ready when we got back.

Rare Scottish Primrose

We found two of these rare Scottish primroses on Farraid Head. They are tiny, the flower being only 8mm in diameter, and are only found in the far Northwest of Scotland.

Sundown Over Sandwood Lagoon

05 Aug 2013 4 4 425
The day brought all kinds of weather from sunshine through bands of light rain and drizzle. The sky was constantly and quickly changing, one minute it was overcast the next dramatic clouds or clear blue. It was hard to keep up with the ever changing light.
