Jayne with Burka.

Jayne with Burka.
Why did I buy a burka, symbol of female oppression? For the kitsch value when I go home. And because *everyone* wonders what one is like to wear. But if you are going to work in Kabul and you are female, it's not a bad idea to have one, just in case you need to evacuate somewhere incognito. If you DO need to pass as a local in a burqa, note that your hiking boots or trail running shoes will give you away as a Westerner - very feminine shoes will help you better blend in (but hurt your feet if you have to walk far). See me without the burka. Read more about my adventure in Afghanistan
