love the sign. It's good to see you doing some night photography with the Hasselblad. How long was your exposure?

Gary, I generally shoot at f4.0 to f11.0 depending on how I perceive the overall light in the scene. Something like this I probably shot at f4.0 for 1/2 sec and maybe 5.6 at 2 sec. C41 has a lot of latitude and I usually shoot a frame at about a full stop extra from the original exposure.

Oh, I thought it would be several minutes at least. My first attempts with the Rolleiflex +50 mm Distagon at Port Adelaide last weekend were around 2-3 minutes. I found it hard to frame the scene in the viewfinder as I couldn't see anything but vague shapes. So the trick is to find night subjects with good lights?

there are several styles to night shooting. This is my preferred style. I do shoot longer at settings like f22.0 up to 45 - 90 seconds depending on how much I want the shot to look "daytime like" I'm sure you know Mando Alvarez and he's in that camp. I sometimes emulate his approach. If you haven't seen his work you should. He should be on everyone's contact list if they shoot film.

You know what these pictures do to me Jan. Oh this glorious B-movie world. The Flying Saucers, the Bar Room Broads, giant spiders and Mr and Mrs Smith, their carpet bags bulging with money.

I once stayed at small motels in a convoluted loop from New York to Kentucky, The paranoia was sublime :) So is this :)

You sure get around a lot for an 84 year old. How do you stay awake long enough to get these night shots?

84 years??? I'm getting younger? I could have sworn I was 99. I'd better check my dates. How do I stay awake? The secret is a caffein drip ;D

Jack, I can honestly say I'll not sell mine. I've thought about it several times but I look at the images, the versatility of the camera and the portability of it and I can't find much to compare. I'm packing it for my fishing trip... just in case ;D

You'd be crazy to sell the Hasselblad Jan. Like the Rolleiflex it is a classic medium format film camera that was built to last a photographer's lifetime.
