P6121995ac Saturn V Last Stage Boeing F-1 Engines
This enormous part, a flying cathedral, was lost after each launch, just imagine the cost!!! These 5 J1 engines consumed 15 tons of carburant by second! The noise at departure could kill a man or any life in 10 seconds in a radius of 5 miles (8km)!!! Wikipedia: Each engine develops 1.5 millions pounds of thrust; The F-1 engine burned kerosene (RP-1) and liquid oxygen (LOX); One of the most amazing aspects of the Saturn V first stage is that these giant rocket motors were gimbaled, that is, they were movable to steer the rocket during lift-off; USA Florida NASA Kennedy Space Center.
