Well,I think the use of real hair in Christ's statue reaches the exaggeration..!It is too much ,very sentimental.The purpose of icons is not to provoke our sentimentalism but to teach us the theological meaning of the christian faith..!That would never happen in an orthodox icon...it is just out of the purpose of the church..!Friendly Evan

That is a curious Iberic tradition that can be seen in all Countries of Spanish or Portuguese cultures (even in central or South Americas); I have collected some which are still more surprising that I shall post later, Thank You Evan!
