These great organs were rebuilt by F.Thierry in 1730, by F.H.Cliquot in 1784, by A.Cavaill Coll in 1863, by J.Hermann & R.Boisseau in 1963 an newly restored in 1992 on an order of the State Organist Pierre Cochereau (died in 1985 Five of March); Between other transformations, He asked to add very powerful horizontal trumpet pipes; The tones of the flute pipes are really specific of that instrument; When I hear an organ music disc without having read information about where it was played, I can identify immediately if the piece has been played on the Notre Dames great organs by the lovely and characteristic sounds of the flute pipes (if used of course); Actual Titular of this world famous instrument are since 1985 Olivier Latry, Philippe Lefebvre & Jean-Pierre Leguay; Organ composition is: 7,800 pipes some (only 12) from the middle age, 5 manual keyboards that can be inter changed, a pedal keyboard, 113 stops and all possible combinations by a strong introduction of electronic systems in 1992.
