WHERE TO STAY, WHERE TO EAT, WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO SEE.
P6225213ac Rome Santa Maria Maggiore Major Christian Basilica Facade
Image taken at big risk as I am on the street (and Pierre stayed in the car as parking is not permitted any time) because when the traffic lights pass to green a torrent of speedy cars arrives without care of pedestrans! St. Mary Major was originally built here between 432-440AD; The nave's ceiling is gilded with gold supposedly donated by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella that was brought back from the New World; It is the only church in Rome where mass has been held every day since the 5th century and also one of the largest; Italy Latium Rome Capital Santa Maria Maggiore Major Christian Basilica.
