This splendid antic rose was not lighted outside by the sun at this time but inside and can't be appreciated correctly; It describes the childhood of Christ and the Last Judgement; The vines running up the rays give a green tint unique in the glass art of the thirteenth century; The central oculus theme is the triumphant Christ and the resurrection of the dead; Within twelve medallions thoroughly damask, (which are to be read from the bottom of the rose), are the scenes of the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the toilet of the Child, the Circumcision; The Magi before Herod, the Adoration of the Magi, are usually spread over two medallions symmetrical; In the tips of small lancets figure the presentation in the Temple, the sleep of the Magi, the departure of the Magi, the massacre of the Holy Innocents, the flight into Egypt the miracle of the wheat field, Jesus and the doctors of the Law; Against the outer circle, twenty-four trefoils are adorned with heads; Under the rose, the left lancet represents the Synagogue, topped by a prophet and the Sun and the right lancet, the Church, beneath a prophet and the Moon; In the lower quatrefoils, two prophets surround two incense burners angels and one in the center with two crowns; On the tympanum, above the rose, take place two large angels incense burners; All of the rose dates of the second half of the thirteenth century; France Champagne-Ardenne Region Marne Department Chalons-en-Champagne Capital St Etienne Cathedral.
