The three tall windows, offered by St. Louis in 1237, summed up the Christian story of salvation foretold by the prophets, made by Christ, proclaimed by the apostles in the world, and in Chalons by the holy bishops; Shades of pink and green are used extensively here for the thirteenth century; Faces and hands are blackened by pollution, unfortunately; The central lancets show, from bottom to top: right, the Virgin and Child, the Crucifixion, Christ in glory blessing, left, St. Alpine St. Memmie, both Bishops of Chalons and patron of St. Stephen cathedral to the eardrum, the Last Judgement; On left side the bay, from bottom to top also features two prophets, two holy bishops of Chalons named Donatien and Elaphe, the Apostles John and Paul and the eardrum, the Adoration of the Magi; Finally, on theright side bay are represented, again from bottom to top, two prophets, two holy bishops of Chalons named Domitian and Lumier, the apostles Peter and Andrew; In the eardrum are holy Memmie and four groups of donors: to the right, king Saint Louis and his brother Robert of Artois, to the left, Queen Margaret of Provence and his wife Mahaut of Brabant, wife of Robert d'Artois; Down the two riders Alphonse de Poitiers and Charles of Anjou, other brothers of the king; France Champagne-Ardenne Region Marne Department Chalons-en-Champagne Capital St Etienne Cathedral.
