A subtle investigation of...I'm not sure..Ghostly, faded portraits almost lost beneath patina and dust. A late brown world becoming darker. I doubt the electric candle will work...but perhaps someone still visits, still has memories...I like the hint of red, the crumpled materials around the memorial, the way the inner frame towers into blackness. The dust is undisturbed.

That's a wonderful musing response, TAA -- thanks for taking the time to think about it so sensitively. There's something about these Portuguese cemeteries that I'm completely captured by -- the mixture of dignity, saudade, pragmatism and sentimentality... BTW the box the photos are leaning against is actually an ossuary box -- this is a family tomb that had obviously seen generations ending in it.
