Latheronwheel Harbour
Latheronwheel, Another low tide image from this lovely little and well maintained harbour on the North Sea coast of Caithness,
If viewed large an oil or gas platform is just visible on the horizon
HBM and a nice week.
Castle Varrich,
The ancient seat of the clan Mackay was at Castle Varrich, there are supposedly caves under the castle which is estimated to have been built in the 14th century.
I prefer the image large, and please note the heather on the high ground. This is another from the North Coast 500 Series
Loch Eriboll
A16 km long Sea Loch on the North coast of Scotland, which has been used a deep water anchorage by ships sheltering from storms in the Pentland Firth and around Cape Wrath for centuries,
Exchange
Quick chat and token exchange at Bishops Lydeard Station. West Somerset Railway,
Ex GWR 2-8-0 2287 waits to depart with a service train to Minehead and ex GWR mogul 9351 arrives with a mixed freight.
Large gives a good view into the cab.
Image from the archive, struggling with internet connection again
Back to Basics
A basic bench overlooking the harbour at Latheronwheel in Caithness
Happy Bench Monday and a good week
Cliff Top Seat
Overlooking the Solway Firth and no safety net so it's not a bench for vertio sufferers, Isle of Whithorn, Dumfries and Galloway.
A rather tenuous music link, Jimmy Cliff www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrHxhQPOO2c
HBM and a good safe week
Inlet of the Stack, + pip
This is the historic fishing village of Staxigoe from the Norse name "inlet of the Stack" on the North East coast of Caithness, Captured on a bright summer day with a slight sea haze,
A choice of seating and a pip, HBM and a good day to you all
North Sea View
Looking out on the North Sea from a small beach beside the harbour at Lybster in Caithness.
HBM and a great week to you all
Smoke House
Now Waterlines Heritage Centre and café this harbour building was formally a part of the fishing industry back in time when Lybster used to be one of Scotland’s largest herring ports, of particular note is the old smoke house on the far right of the image.
By 1859 some 357 boats operated from the harbour, making it the third-busiest fishing port in Scotland, however only a handful of mainly crab boats work from the harbour these days.
A music link with a very surprising ABBA version, www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5__bvSyXN4
HBM and a great week to you all
