Pirates of Cambeltown Loch.

Pirates of Cambeltown Loch.
A slightly misty late afternoon as a small boat makes for the shore, If you are able to enlarge look to the small boat and see that man in the cap is holding a barrel, hope it's for fresh water,
It's a shame but I am unable to find a name on the vessel or any information about her,

Petar Bojić, Djitûze, Nicola Williams, Barman58 and 75 other people have particularly liked this photo

That's a great capture Roger, I like the whole scene. I was curious about the sail being raised while at anchor, I did look it up and it is what they call a Lug sail but really no info why it might be raised without anybody on board. (Perhaps the barrel is contraband and the boat is ready for a quick getaway).
Roger (Grisly) club has replied to HappySnapper
Thank you Maurice , I did wonder what type craft it was but you have answed the question and I now know it's a Lugger, found this bit on wiki "Luggers were used extensively for smuggling from the middle of the 18th century onwards; their fast hulls and powerful rigs regularly allowed them to outpace any Revenue vessel in service" I did note that one sailor returned immediatly to the boat so it was untended for only a short while.

That is a really beautiful sailing boat, especially the sail and it really stands out against the sea and landscape. Beautifully captured Roger.

I reckon it could be rum in the barrel, not much point smuggling water :-))

I hope you're enjoying the weekend sir!

Beautiful old boat and great reflections. I love the sail. Should by rights be whisky in the barrel. I'm sure somebody has a still in the hills.

Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey

Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey

But the price of the whiskey is grim
How nice it would be if the whiskey was free
