Coherent with your line of investigation the photo explores alternative elements.
The work as a whole is very suggestive and the effect of 3D is strongly intriguing.
Some influence of Man Ray?
If had I read the article about Man Ray I would be more confident to stablish such a line of interpretation.
But I did not suceed to read it...

Thank you P.R. Yes I would say the influence of Man Ray and other surrealists is quite strong on me.
Thank you for alerting me to the problem with the post on Man Ray. I did repost it and it should be OK now. It a video of some of Man Ray's work. I will post a short film he did very soon.
Man Ray is one of my best favored artists. His work spanned many disciplines and had such a wide breadth. I am reading his autobiography "Self Portrait" now. It is very interesting and illuminating.

Very interesting work. I like that. Another common feature with Man Ray is that you experiment a lot of different techniques, but always go further than the technique, to create worlds and emotion, not to stay fascinated by the technique itself.
And the new feature of Ipernity, the "on black" option, is really great for a picture like this one.

Thank you Charp. Experimentation is an essential component of my work. Maybe it is not so good because it might come at the expense of cohesiveness of the work overall.
Technique for the sake of technique is not good at all. Technique is I believe a means to an end and I hope that what people see in my work. Again many thanks for your kind words.

Did you think about the idea to give a titlle?

Aref Nammari (goplay… has replied to P.R.Baptista
No I haven't really given much thought to a title. It is really funny that sometimes the title just comes even before I finish and sometimes just doesn't--probably because this is really not a pre-conceived work but rather the result of an experiment.

I think that usually a title helps to give identity to a work.
I remember we had an interesting discussion about your photograph finally called "dialectics"
But in this case I don't have at this moment any suggestion....

Yes that was a good and productive discussion. You are right about the title giving identity to a work but it also could be be misleading in the sense that it leads the viewer in a certain direction rather than the viewer discovering his/her own path through the work.
I will be very happy to hear your suggestions as your ideas develop and crystallize. I will do the same but that will have to wait a few more days--I am way too busy with work these days (a big project review coming up and I have to get ready for it).

No. This was done using displacement map. I created a new image the same size as that of the torso which is in B&W. The new imgae was filled by a pattern (image of textile loosely woven) which I then displaced using the image of the torso as a map. Then I sandwiched the two images and blended them and that is the result.

Aref, did you finally find a title? .... :-)

Aref Nammari (goplay… has replied to P.R.Baptista
Dear P.R. I haven't found a title but to honest I haven't thought about it for a while. Recently I have been buried with work and the events in the Middle East that I haven't had much of creative activities.

... the question has to do with my thesis that a photograph has an element of quality if, for some reason, we keep it in mind and want to see it again and again. After months, years.
A title helps to keep this reference and not to lose it or not confuse it among other pictures.
My comment , almost two years after the last one, has this meaning..
... At this moment the closest a title should be to our discussion would be, no doubt, "Looking for a Title" ... :-)
