she would have loved both your comments. she never thought i looked like her. i see our resemblance all the time now.
my mother strove for class. she had a very difficult working class upbringing and life with my father on his family's 180 acre property and 1790 home in the country really didn't turn out anything like she'd hoped. she'd be honored to know anyone thought she had natural grace and class.

i loved my mother very much and wish i could erase so many of her disappointments in life. she deserved so much more.

today marks the fifth anniversary of her death from lung cancer.. dearly missed and never forgotten. thank you both very much for your input tonight.

thank you, Magda. i'm very sorry for your loss too.
my mother always said that i looked like my paternal grandmother. she thought her mother- in -law prettier than she herself was. i never really saw the resemblance at all till very recently. funny thing is i don't look like her at 52 which is the age i am- i look like the younger versions of her. at my age her difficult life weighed heavily on her and affected how she looked. a few years forward and my father would take his life by his own hand. he was very unfair to my mother. she lived 18 years longer after that. smoke free but it wasn't enough.

tho her life was very difficult she was proud to figuratively beat her chest and call herself a survivor.

i'm one too and so are you, magda. your friendship brings me more happiness than you may ever know. thank you for being my friend.

it's a very moving portrait, both with and without the knowledge of the blows life dealt her - life isn't fair

maybe also it reflects the era - my mother, from 1914, passed away Oct 7, 1997 after a life in the hardships of the depression, the war & occupation, and the long recovery from that devastation - nothing she asked for, but forced upon her, and forced to having to deal wiht it, in which she was not altogether successful, but still managed somehow - even still, she had such a great heart & was full of love and able to share that love without any inhibition

it's seems only natural to wish to erase the sadness you observe in those you love (& sometimes even in those you've no particular feeling for) - I try to accumulate what was given to me & pass it on as best as I can & try not to be aware too much of the shaky ground I'm moving on...
