Old Bank of England Court

Old Bank of England Court
Norwich.

According to Nikolaus Pevsner, Edward Boardman was the most successful Norwich architect of the second half of the nineteenth century, Since one of his rivals was George Skipper, that's quite an achievement.

Lots of detail in the big views. Type Z for a bigger view. For a full-screen view, next click the frame in the top right corner between the comment balloon and the autoplay arrow. If you want a bigger view then that -- really, get a grip.

Thanks, Joe. There are many fine buildings in Norwich, and the council actually protects them.

A very well composed street candid John. I really like the ornate door surround and the sculpted details of the architect. I also like the colour of the scooter............it fits in to the scene nicely against the brickwork.

Thanks, Keith. I knew there must be a reason I liked that scooter being there, and now thanks to you, I know. One of the big advantages of this site.

Terrific composition and the sign is a work of art

Thanks, Roger. British signs often are stunning examples of typographic design, and this is bravura stonecutting as well. Renzo Salvadori ended his Architect's Guide to London with an encomium to British signs, and that opened my eyes to how good they are. Ours are primitive by comparison.

He wouldn't get out of the way, but I ended up preferring the photo with him in it to the ones I took without him.

The fancywork decorations are really beautiful. I actually did want an even bigger size! I like the randomness of the scooter and the man in front of this building.

Tardy thanks, Diana. You can actually click the full screen view to double its size -- you can't see all of it but you can check out the details.

If you haven't seen it yet. I posted that other reunion shot I have.

I like that Vespa Scooter, not I didn't had one, it was too expensive for me during those days

P.S I now nothing about the gentlemen mentioned in this post!

George Skipper is actually known as the Gaudì of Norwich, Dinesh. That's maybe going a bit far but he was a fine architect.
