Friðrik Sophusson or Fridrik Sophusson, (born in Reykjavík on October 18, 1943), is an Icelandic politician and the current director of Icelandic state-run energy firm Landsvirkjun. He graduated from the University of Iceland in 1972, as a lawyer.
Friðrik was minister of industry from July 8 until December 28, 1987 and minister of finance from April 30, 1991 until April 16, 1998. Since 1998 he has been the director of Landsvirkjun.
Friðrik is the former chairman of Vaka, Association of Democratically Oriented Students. In his political career he has been a member of various committees and boards, e.g. the central committee of the conservative Independence Party.
As director of Iceland's state-run energy firm Landsvirkjun, Friðrik has been among the most active proponents of the controversial hydro-electric dam at Kárahnjúkar in eastern Iceland.
