German Troops Raising the Nazi Swastika in Acropolis (1941)

German troops raising the Swastika flag in Acropolis of Athens. But only few days later,on the 31st of May 1942 two students,Manolis Glezos and Apostolos Santas took the flag down from the sacred hill during the night. It was a resistance action that showed to whole Europe the persistent will of the greek nation to keep on the resistance against the Axis

Well, I understood that the German leader of that time had declared his surpize because the Greeks didn't let his army pass along, towards Africa. He should have said "Why? What do they have against me? I don't have anything against them!"...
[The Swastika has been used for thousants of years in Greece as a positive symbol and as a binding element of vertically meeting Meanders, that is, thinking paths in a controling relation to each other. Some even suggest that the word Swastika originates from the Greek word Σωστικά (= Σωστική) of the Aeolic and/or Doric dialect...]
I read that, recently someone found this flag in a little gorge under the Acropolis, laying there for ±65 years, after the students took it off the mast!

Very interesting this information...certainly the symbol of svastika may have some relation with the ancient greek civilisation and we must keep in mind that the Nazistic Germans adored ancient Greece...for its pure principles and civilisation..But today the symbol has a negative meaning,it may be used by extra 'right' paries like Chryssi Avghi..!

well, the poor symbol is today "not done", as is the little moustache that A.H. had... but shouldn't the world be a bit further than things of a past age by now?
