Passage Cicéron, Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe

Passage Cicéron, Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe
Descriptif en PIP.

Ciceron Passage (PIP translation)

The passage Ciceron takes its name from Mr Adolphe CICERON (1853-1928), notary, senator and president of the General Council of Guadeloupe.
His political career (1885-1912) was marked mainly by his activism for the assimilation of the colonies to the French departments and his fight against electoral fraud.
Ciceron Passage begins at Cours Nolivos Street, crosses Pitat, Baudot, Peynier streets and ends at Perrinon Street. It is one of the first pedestrian streets in Basse-Terre. It covers a ravine that rises from the heights of Saint-Claude.
From 1979 to 1990, this passage was used as a shopping mall for tourist souvenirs. After being closed for many years, it reopened in 2007.

At the initiative of Mrs Lucette Michaux-Chevry, Senator and Mayor of Basse-Terre, the Ciceron Passage was restored, redeveloped into an artisanal zone and inaugurated on 24 April 2010, in the presence of Mr Jean Fabre, Prefect of the Guadeloupe Region.

I didn't have a chance to see this alley when it's the busiest. Both points of view would have been interesting. And like you, I'm sure I would have found a thousand attractive things there!
I thank you for your comment & star, Marj. And wih you too an excellent weekend !

Although it looks a little worn out, this passage still has charm. A beautiful composition with depth, Eric!
Hope you have a lovely weekend.

It has been restored but has aged again, it's true. I like these blinds that shelter the alley and colour it nicely.
Thank you very much * ઇઉ *, and excellent weekend to you too.

Ciao Eric !!

At last after my pretty long Italian trip I can come back to your gallery and..enjoy so deeply this image of Ciceron passage in Guadeloupe!
First I'm really so fond of this theme ( old/ancient , narrow streets/ alleys etc )anywhere I go, not certainly from the 'picturesque ' point of view, but on the one hand for the architecture itself and , above all, for the emotional impact they have as if could ' breath' their past histories, stories, lives..
And that's exactly what I immediately perceived in this image because of the greatly impressive way you caught it.
I think you wouldn't have ever clicked on Ciceron passage crowded with tourists..but that's only my opinion , of course :-)
the silently deep perspective running along the vividly painted walls under the yellow sunshades constrasting with the tones and the design of the floor.. even
