The university hospital in Aachen has a funny color coding: Areas for patients are green and orange, areas for staff and students are silver.

no blue's? - there must be a reason for these patient-colors - do they have lines on the ground to help find your way?

There are lines on the floor, but they are most likely just decoration.

When the architects designed the building they were inspired by some kind of sci-fi romanticism I think. Ease of orientation was probably not very important; the building is fairly labyrinth like. Look at the image of the little stairway: I'm convinced the floor where it leads to is not connected to the main stairway, nor the elevators.

A neat example is the medical library. It has a reading level (somewhat wrongly colored in green) and some kind of book vault below. In the reading level there is a little stairway leading down into a big hall, five stories high, with concrete walls, and bookshelves at the bottom. The stairway is standing free in the big hall (but next to one of the walls). So when you want to get a somewhat uncommon book, you enter the 'vault' through the roof and have a nice view over the bookshelves. However when you need to go there frequently it's surely inconvenient.

Update:
I was recently at the medical library's repository, and this formidable waste of space is no more. The repository has moved to a regular cellar room with two stories of book shelves in it. It does unfortunately no longer look any special. The lady at the counter told me that the radiologists got the high room where the repository was formerly located.

perhaps the archtects had another romantic idea of doctors not needing to have to find confirmation in the library (and the patients are merely looking for the way out)...

you've made me curious - it's the big building on the left on the vaals-aachen road, right?

Yes the hospital is somewhat close to the road between Vaals and Aachen, and it lies on the left side. They call it "Universitätsklinikum" or "Klinikum" (in case you'll look for a road sign).

I hope I didn't exaggerate too much; but I really like the building. I think a very wide angle- or fish eye-objective would be great. I think the students would pose for your camera. With a serious face and their white coats they'd surely look good. Maybe the students would even put on "Darth Vader" and "Stormtrooper" masks if you brought some. (I'm somehow trapped in my own sci-fi romanticism, it seems.)
