There are electric signs which, sometimes, are at their best when they're not fully functioning. You can also use that sentence to demonstrate the use of the words “there,” “their” and “they’re” (if you have a mind to).

This sign is in front of the vacant Plaza Theatre (constructed in 1936) in Palm Springs. The sign may be as old as the theatre (though no sources confirm this).

The theatre opened with the MGM world premiere of “Camille” (Greta Garbo, Robert Taylor, directed by George Cukor). The highly flammable nitrate print (used at that screening) was, supposedly, placed in a time capsule and hidden somewhere in the theatre (so Palm Springs may have yet another disastrous surprise to look forward to).

The Palm Springs International Film Festival had been negotiating (in 2015) with the city (owner of the property) to return their festival to this venue. The deal was to involve some restoration (although it probably didn’t include resurrecting the theatre’s original antique white leather seating). But a year has passed with no further mention of the project.

Well done. An inviting image and interesting information (I'm especially fond of your opening paragraph).
