Desert Center

Desert Center
In storage, on the right, is Southern Pacific locomotive 4449 used (on Kaiser Steel’s Eagle Mountain Railroad) in making the 1986 film “Tough Guys” (which teamed Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas for the last time). The film also featured Eli Wallach, Alexis Smith, Charles Durning and Dana Carvey.

The rail line is 4 miles from Desert Center so it’s possible that the locomotive has been here since filming completed. The train crash, at the end of the film, was shot partially in miniature.

This locomotive is inaccessible and only visible through unwashed windows.
