Stereocaulon versuvianum

Stereocaulon versuvianum
Spotted because it looked completely out of place, all the surrounding rocks were bare except for the odd flash of Rhizocarpon geographicum, this rock had a healthy covering of Stereocaulon versuvianum, bryophytes and Cladonia bellidiflora. I have a grid reference so will have to go back and investigate when I get time.

Nice find. It's amazing where lichens can thrive.

Thanks Ed - unfortunately I wasn't able to stop and examine the rock carefully - looking forward to re-visiting this one and seeing what other suprises it holds.
