Acari

Acari
Spotted running across the petri dish whilst examining some mosses under the microscope, this little Acari or mite was less than 0.5mm long and had amazingly long hairs. Under normal light it was white, but here shown with transmitted light.

Was this photo taken through the microscope, or is this an extreme macro?

Taken on a full frame SLR though a microscope at 400x magnification. Not a great photo I'm afraid, but I haven't spent enough time getting used to the set-up. Fast little things too at such high power.

Nice capture! It's amazing what you can find in a moss. You taking this one to mesofauna?

Just the images, thought I'd let it run free rather than pickling!
