Equisetum hyemale

Equisetum hyemale
A young Dutch Rush, Equisetum hyemale heads upwards.

Not a Rush at all, all Horsetails (Fern allies), contain silica, but E.hyemale has a very high silica content in the cell walls. Historically it was imported from the Netherlands, for scouring pots, hence it's common names, Dutch Rush, Scouring Rush or Rough Horsetail.

Considered a weed. A primitive plant but the design was perfect in the first place, so why chance it. I love them. Great photo.
