Pima Air Museum B-29 Superfortress (# 0683)

Pima Air Museum B-29 Superfortress (# 0683)
Shifting now to posting photos from a visit last June to the Pima Air and Space Museum near Tuscon....

Derived from the Pima webpage: “The B-29 was designed as what the Army Air Forces called a "Hemisphere Defense Weapon." .... the B-29 still carried more bombs, higher, farther and faster than any other bomber of World War II.... many continued to serve the U.S. Air Force into the early 1950s as bombers, reconnaissance planes, and as refueling tankers.”

IIRC they were also used as early research aircraft, for things like flying into thunderstorms.

I didn't recall that, so looked it up, and you're right (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_B-29_Superfortress)
