In the UK this track would be surrounded by a high fence. The third [electric] rail makes the track itself more dangerous where I live but I think it is the same in any region.

We have a fairly high number of deaths by train in the U.S., some of which are suicide, some of which are inebriation, and some of which are just misjudging.

I've been shocked at how common train deaths are in my neck of the woods. Of course, I see people stopped on tracks all the time, and anybody behind me in stopped traffic stands on the horn when I refuse to pull onto the track when it's not clear ahead. I just don't get it.
