Poland, Krakow Grunwald Monument (#2382)

Poland, Krakow Grunwald Monument (#2382)
A quite impressive monument, just north of old town. The monument commemorates the Battle of Grunwald, fought in 1410, when combined forces of Poland and Lithuania overcame the Teutonic (German) Knights. The very large dead soldier portrayed on the front is the fallen Teutonic Grand Master. The monument is actually a restoration, the original was destroyed by the Nazis in WWII. I often wonder how the National Mall in Washington will look in a few hundred years to people who have no real memory of the century of monuments we've crammed into the space. I suspect it will be a lot like this, pretty memorials that carry no meaning to the people who take their pictures.
