The effects of the drought on Lake Shasta. BUT, caution is needed in interpreting that because Lake Shasta depth varies by season. On the date I took this, Lake Shasta was at 24% of total capacity, but at a less drastic 41% of the historical average for that date.

Interesting, too--I've seen pix of the hills around Shasta about the time the dam was built, and they were almost barren. The forest has made a big comeback in the last 80 years or so.

I took this from a hike about a mile up to a view point, which was obscured because the trees were too dense. Considering the drought and the fire nearby in Weed, I was a little concerned about getting trapped by fire on a trail.
