I guess the only advantage to Appalachian mountaintop removal compared to the big open pits of the West is that the Eastern foliage keeps you from seeing 10 miles of missing mountain. This is coupled, of course, with the disadvantage that hiding it behind trees makes it somehow seem less insidious, and people are less likely to question it.
