The picture that took me to Southern Italy

The picture that took me to Southern Italy
This is the picture I saw in a magazine months ago (National Geographic or Geo, can't remember), and I was so taken by the whole ambiance, the wonderful Romanesque architecture, the unusual stone terrace, and the sea in the background, that I thought “Let's go there for vacation next summer!”...

And it's mostly because I had missed that photo, that I drove across Italy to get back to Trani, and then when the photo was there, right there in front of me, ready to be taken, well it was even better than in the magazine with the stone terrace all gleaming because of the rain... This was such a great moment.

Tim Hanko has particularly liked this photo

I understand your passion for fulfilling a goal like this one. We travelled to a European destination because of a movie. The reality was so much better.

That is an interesting experience... Just last week we were discussing a possible trip to New Zealand, for all the good reasons in the world of course, the main one (not publicly underlined of course, as we are responsible adults...) being to see with our own eyes the shooting locations of The Lord of the Rings... ;o)

Which movie of yours was it?

Joueuse or Queen to Play as its English title. It is set in Corscia. We liked the scenery in the movie. When we were planning the trip I found that the movie was shot at Les Roche Rouge in Piana. We booked a room (expensive for our budget) at this hotel since it was the reason we were going in the first place. Since it was early season, the manager upgraded our room to a corner room overlooking the ocean. It was wonderful.

Interesting story (and thanks for the photo!). The red rocks of Piana (and the “calanche”, inlets) are quite famous, I've been there several times on my sailing adventures. I didn't know that movie so I watched it last night, taking advantage of its presence on Youtube, it's a sweet and interesting movie.

Many thanks, Tim ! It mattered to me (you know, it's one of those things you just *have* to do) and I'm glad it turned out to be such an amazing day.
