Suitcase cake - Retirement - Travel

Suitcase cake - Retirement - Travel
I had a great time creating this cake. My customer sent me a picture of a suitcase cake for inspiration, but I made lots of changes. Barbara is retiring after 30+ years as the Tax Collector in Hamden CT - I included the name plate and coins; she loves to travel to Las Vegas and enjoys the slots (wild cherry?); she loves to cruise ( life preserver), and she has a home in Florida (seashells on the back corner, and a pretty flower in the front). My customer was thrilled, hopefully her Mom and the guests at the retirement party will enjoy this too.
**Update - I had the nicest note from my customer last night, the cake was a huge hit, and her mom was thrilled. I'm always so pleased when my customers take the time to write me after the party -

This is amazing! I love all the details you put into your cakes! It's not just luggage, but all the details that add to it, from the coins to the little life preserver, the little cherries (which make perfect sense) and the tropical lily! I'm sure the Mom and the guests will love it too, and I bet this cake tastes just as good as it looks!

Wow, so fun, and so much detail! Marvelous to include bits and pieces to represent her passions. May Barbara have a truly blessed, joy-filled retirement!

Diane I wish you could make birthday cake for my Selma when she will have her 4th birthday party for kids this Saturday. She has turned 4 but she will now have her own party for little friends.

Your additional touches are always so much fun. I love the Welcome sign and the coins remind me of those chocolate foil wrapped coins I loved as a kid...I think the person who designed our Loonie ($1 coin) loved them as well.

The coins ARE the chocolate foil wrapped candy - they are still available at our local stores and work perfectly when I need cash for the cakes. :-)

Thanks for commenting - be on the lookout for two more tomorrow -

As usual your cake is so well done and personal. Thank you for your help with FB. After we figured out the situation, I showed my husband your photostream and gave him a sampling of your creative cakes - he was also very impressed with your work.
