The Navy Blue of India

“I adore that pink...It's the navy blue of India!”
(Diana Vreeland - American fashion editor, 1906-1989)

By chance I came upon these words quoted in 1962 by the memorable Diana Vreeland.
She meant that in India the color pink was the functional equivalent to navy blue in the Western fashion, that it was a common foundation or basic at that time.
Since the 80’s the black colour became the new neutral but pink remains a basic in India.

This lady was adjusting her pink silk sari after having a bath in the holy waters of the Ganges at Dasashvamedha ghat, in Varanasi (Benaras).

This picture is an opportunity to remind the “Pink for October” campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness and one message:
“Nowadays breast cancer can be cured if it is diagnosed in time”.
Spread the word, you can save lives.
