"This is the story of Mee Nî Mao Tse who was born in North China.
It is said that she left her country in the early 20's and went to America where she wanted to perform opera.
In 1922 she changed her name and became Meenie Maose, she has been performing her first leading role in a silent color film, "The Toll of the Sea", based on Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly (Madame Butterfly).
This movie, moved the storyline to China.
It was the second two-color Technicolor motion picture ever released and the first film made using Technicolor Process 2.
But Mee Nî Mao Tse became famous four years later in Walt Disney's "Plane Crazy", making her first appearance under the name of Minnie Mouse.
In 1963, pop artist Roy Lichtenstein decided to make a painting showing how she was before Hollywood studio's plastic surgery."
(This statue in terra-cotta from the Tang dynasty was made during the VIII° century in North China, it belongs to Jacques Polain's collection in Guimet Museum (Paris) and it is called Dame au chignon "à double coque".
