Looks a bit like a bee-fly (Bombylius spp.) to me.

We have a variety of bee-mimic hoverflies around here. I do not exaggerate to say that it is not unusual to find a previously unseen one here, just walking around the yard, every day here in parts of the summer. There was one here last year that i photographed that practically anyone would have presumed was a yellow jacket. This one was a little smaller than a honeybee, though its flight of course was nothing like that of a honeybee.
